ROLE DESCRIPTION:

As a Residential Estimator, you will play a key role in analyzing construction projects to determine accurate cost estimates. You will be responsible for evaluating project plans, specifications, and requirements to quantify materials, labour, and other costs associated with residential estimating activities. Your expertise in cost estimation and attention to detail will be essential in providing reliable estimates to support project planning and decision-making.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Project Analysis

  1. Review project plans, drawings, and specifications thoroughly understand project scope and requirements.
  2. Analyze project documentation to identify materials, labor, equipment, and other resources needed for construction.
  3. Assess project site conditions and logistical factors that may impact construction and delivery costs.

Cost Estimations

  1. Use industry-standard methodologies and software tools to calculate accurate cost estimates for construction projects.
  2. Quantify material requirements, labor hours, and equipment usage based on project specifications and scheduling requirements.
  3. Research current market prices for materials and subcontractor services to ensure cost estimates are up-to-date and competitive.

Bid Preparation

  1. Prepare detailed bid proposals and cost breakdowns for construction projects, including material take-oofs and pricing.
  2. Collaborate with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to obtain competitive quotes and pricing for project components.
  3. Present bid proposals to clients and stakeholders, highlighting key cost components and value-added services.

Value Engineering

  1. Identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering without compromising project quality or performance.
  2. Recommend alternative materials, construction methods, or design modifications to optimize project costs while meeting project objectives.

Risk Assessment

  1. Assess potential risks and uncertainties that may impact project costs, such as changes in market conditions, regulatory requirements, or project scope.
  2. Incorporate risk factors into cost estimates and develop contingency plans to mitigate potential cost overruns.

Communication and Collaboration

  1. Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather project information and refine cost estimate.
  2. Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to clarify project requirements and address cost-related inquiries

Documentation and Reporting

  1. Maintain accurate records of cost estimates, bid proposals, and project documentation.
  2. Generate reports and summaries to track project costs, variance analysis, and cost forecasting.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Civil Engineer
  • Minimum of 4 years proven working experience as a Quantity Surveyor
  • Proven experience as a construction estimator, with a strong understanding of construction processes and materials.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software with a preference for DataBuild.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to accurately interpret project documentation and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of construction cost factors, market trends, and industry best practices.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent English communication skills - verbal and written.

  • Provide timely and comprehensive cost estimates that meet project deadlines and client expectations.

  • Continuously improve estimating processes and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
