As a Media Relations Specialist, you will support and assist the Media and Communications Manager in the execution of corporate communications activities involving public relations, media communications, issues management, information dissemination, and strategic communications advice.

How You'll Contribute

Analytical Thinking

  • Develops post-event PR reports for submission to include details of the event, a summary of the feedback with an analysis of negative and positive comments from event guests, colleagues, management, and third-party PR consultant
  • Conducts post-analysis of all PR and relevant advertising initiatives to check the quality and accuracy of the placements in various media (e.g. ad size, pagination, print quality, etc. for print ads; airing time and dates for TV and radio ads, online channels, etc.) and to monitor NAC’s PR activities versus competitors
  • Evaluates proposals of advertising supplements to reinforce the Group’s corporate reputation as a highly trusted and reputable natural resources development firm

Client Relationship Management

  • Cultivates and enhances collaborative working relationships with the press and PR community

Information / Records Administration

  • Updates media data files including confidential information such as birthdays, publication anniversaries, and other preferences to keep track, understand, and address significant media needs and requests
  • Prepares cash advances and liquidations for approved birthday gifts of key media contacts and anniversary tokens of major publications
  • Drafts the budget approval term sheet for birthday gifts of key media contacts and anniversary tokens of major publications
  • Creates appropriate forms/lists for media updates to properly document media information
  • Assists the Media and Communications Manager in drafting various communication materials and policy manuals to standardize and regulate communications within and outside the Group

Market Research and Business Intelligence

  • Gathers and disseminates timely information about potential awards and competitions to the Media and Communications Manager to establish credibility and leverage the Group’s standing in the Public Relations and Communications industry
  • Develops interview guides and draft responses for executive interviews with the media and optimize available media monitoring tools to measure the effectiveness of media and ad placements

Coordination

  • Prepares the media plan to maximize NAC-wide public relations and advertising initiatives contracted with various media outfits and other organizations
  • Coordinates closely with different publications to secure prime positioning

Planning and Organizing

  • Assists in the execution of the annual Media Party, Media Briefings, other press events, and the Executive Media Training for Senior Management
  • Assembles and distributes press kits for various media events
  • Arranges birthday and anniversary gifts as well as other corporate tokens to media partners for dispatch to metro and regional/provincial contacts
  • Coordinates closely with other business units to ensure the on-time release of their advertisements

Project/Program Management

  • Assists the Media and Communications Manager in working with the Human Resources Department, NAC Foundation, national organizations, and charitable foundations to create programs that promote the Group's image in a positive and community-oriented way

Qualifications

  • At least 1 to 3 years of related work experience, knowledge of Media Relations and Communications, Public Affairs/CSR/ Memberships, Advertising Support/Media Placements, and Third-Party Provider Coordination
  • Ability to speak a local dialect is a plus
  • Able to assist in managing projects with different types of stakeholders, and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and external parties; Able to record expenses and process payments promptly
