The Civil Design Engineer will take on a pivotal role in the strategic planning and execution of civil engineering designs spanning diverse infrastructure projects. Civil Design Engineer responsibilities will encompass the entire spectrum of civil engineering, including roads, sanitary systems, and drainage/storm water projects. This role extends to overseeing internal design initiatives and meticulously preparing contract documentation for design projects, ensuring the highest standards of engineering excellence and project management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare civil design plans, specifications and estimates for a range of civil design projects.
  • Monitor project plans to ensure objectives are being satisfied and provide timely advice to the Manager on any anticipated delays affecting project commitments.
  • Review all design documentation prepared and ensure that it is correct to a high degree of accuracy, suitable for construction and in accordance with all relevant standards
  • Undertake technical investigations and prepare reports on a range of civil design projects.
  • Provide assistance to other Engineering design staff as required to achieve within the team a sense of harmony, team work, highly motivated staff and a strong customer focus.
  • Ensure speedy and courteous responses to all inquiries, correspondence from Clients, the other Departments and Authorities.
  • Maintain knowledge of policies, current best practice and challenges in Civil Engineering Design.
  • Contribute to the long-term planning and strategies relating to the engineering projects and programs within the CW Dept.
  • Participate and contribute to team based activities
  • With experience in Site Grading and Slope Protection, Road Layout & profiles and Details, Drainage and storm Water Management, earthworks, roadworks and Water Supply System (Distribution Line System)

Required Education, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Licensed Civil Engineer
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D and MicroStation / In-Roads
  • Minimum of 2-5 years work experience as Civil Works Design Engineer reporting directly to the CW Department Manager.
  • Project management experience coordinating consultants to deliver multiple projects that meet strict deadlines, budgets and deliver identified outcomes.
  • Experience investigating, analyzing and resolving difficult design problems, applying Risk Management and policies to civil design projects.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision on a diverse range of design projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan the use of resources to meet the requirements of the CW department.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a number of conflicting priorities simultaneously.
  • High level written, interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to relate to a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to present accurate, concise and timely reports on relevant matters
