Background of the Project

Waypoints: Navigating Civil Maritime Security Reform is a program under The Asia Foundation-Philippines (the Foundation) supported by the Australian Government. The goal is to help the Philippine government, and its citizens strengthen structures and processes that support civil maritime security in the Philippines. The focus of Waypoints is to foster institutional change – 1) institutional arrangements are in place that promote effective interagency cooperation, communication, and coordination to address civil maritime issues; accordingly, and 2) establish multiple avenues for communication and discussion shall engage relevant stakeholders on Philippine maritime issues.

Waypoints has produced various knowledge products (i.e. research, policy papers, and information materials) aimed at developing a policy reform agenda for maritime governance and informing stakeholders and decision makers. These are targeted to be released and distributed to partners and key stakeholders by the end of the year. With this, Waypoints is looking for an experienced Copy Editor to ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to our style guidelines and enhance the quality of our research and policy publications.

Scope of Work of the Contractor

The Copy Editor is expected to perform the following tasks for three (3) research and policy papers, specifically:

  • Review and edit manuscripts for grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors;
  • Ensure consistency in style, tone, and formatting according to APA citation guidelines;
  • Verify the accuracy of data, citations, and references;
  • Provide suggestions for improving clarity, coherence, and overall readability;
  • Collaborate with authors to address any content-related queries or discrepancies; and
  • Prepare edited documents for final approval and publication.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or a related field; advanced degree preferred;
  • Proven experience in editing research papers, policy documents, or academic publications;
  • Strong understanding of research methodologies and terminology in relevant fields;
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines;
  • Familiarity with citation styles commonly used in research and policy papers, specifically the APA Citation Guide; and
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with timely approach to work and deadlines .

Qualified applicants with knowledge and familiarity with context of governance and civil maritime security-related matters will be given preference.
