Overview:

The Physical Security and Crisis Management department requires a skilled professional, with proficiency in travel risk, personnel protection, and governance, as well as managing event security. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to interface and collaborate with senior management and leaders within IT, HR, Communications, Event Planning, Physical and Cyber Security, to establish direction and alignment, as well as execute assignments. This position will require a comfort level in the execution of travel risk management, governance, event security, executive protection, and project reporting. The successful candidate will have an operational scope for our Asia Region (Philippines, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore). This position supports the operations of Sun Life's Global Physical Risk program, providing guidance and support to Sun Life Business Groups to help ensure preparedness for responding to physical risks. The successful candidate will be responsible to execute our vision of safety, security, risk, and governance on behalf of Physical Security and Crisis Management for the Asia Region. This position will maintain strong partnerships with both internal and external business partners, as well as contribute to other geographical areas in which Sun Life operates. In collaboration with their colleagues, this position will be a highly effective partner in ensuring program effectiveness and enhancements

Role Summary:

The successful candidate will work with a team responsible for executing our travel risk management, executive protection, and event security requirements in support of personnel and asset protection through risk assessments, reporting, consulting, onsite presence, awareness, and education. This position will maintain strong partnerships with both internal and external business partners, as well as provide active support to risk programs for our global operations. In collaboration with colleagues and internal partners, this position will be a driving force for program effectiveness, enhancements, and high-quality delivery of services.

What you will do:

  • Oversee event security and compiling threat risk intelligence on geopolitical concerns, security risks such as crime, terrorism, civil unrest, and travel risk to ensure traveler safety.
  • Execute our Physical Threat & Risk Assessment (TRA) Program in Asia. Work with internal and external partners to ensure the TRA program is effectively managed.
  • Provide on-site support for high profile events and meetings which may include personnel protection, organizing movements to and from transportation, and supervising security contractors. Some regional and international travel required.
  • Provide relevant and timely situational awareness briefs, and travel briefs in collaboration with our thirdparty security, medical, and travel risk vendors.
  • Analyze metrics, identify trends, and create processes and strategies to address risks or vulnerabilities associated with the trends.
  • Prepare detailed event security risk assessments and security operational plans to support off-site events globally, as part of maintaining and enhancing the Event Security Travel Risk Program.
  • Work with team members in identifying, developing, implementing, and maintaining processes and practices to preserve life safety, address risks, respond to incidents/emergencies, and limit exposure and liability for physical security and related risks.
  • Support Global Physical Risk managers and their pillars, including Governance & Safety Operations.
  • Manage enhanced personnel protection measures in region, such as travel risk management; consultation for senior leader events for protective measures; event security management; as well as general health, safety and emergency preparedness.
  • Participate and contribute to industry related threat intelligence roundtables, groups or committee’s pertaining to executive protection, travel risk management, event security and physical risk.

Decision-Making Authority

  • Works in tandem with the Manager, EPP to implement program priorities.

What your need to succeed:

  • Degree or diploma in security, investigation, or risk management; or comparable professional education/training in a field relevant to security or investigation management.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience within a corporate, government security or risk department for a similar organization of comparable size and complexity.
  • Professional designation preferred in security or investigations management, such as Associate Protection Professional, Certified Protection Professional, or Professional Certified Investigator.
  • Knowledge or experience in dealing with third party vendors that deal with, travel and medical risk, political, security and integrity risk is considered an asset

Preferred Skills:

  • Exceptional customer service and negotiation skills along with a high level of integrity.
  • Ability to effectively navigate a highly complex organization.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, as this position will be expected to communicate at all levels with precision and clarity.
  • Developed organizational skills and the ability to scope and prioritize a wide range of tasks.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Experience working with both internal teams and contracted operations.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to issues of ethics, diversity, equity, and harassment in the workplace.
  • Self-starter with strong collaboration skills.

Assets:

  • Fundamental knowledge of intelligence and investigative principles, protocols, practices, and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with the Financial Services Industry would be ideal, although is not required.
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Comfortable with travel requirements across portfolio, as required.
  • Understanding of International SOS, Seerist, and Control Risks.
