Overview:
An LNG power generation company is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Energy Trader to oversee 24/7 market trading operations, ensure compliance with trading platforms, and optimize energy transactions. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), ancillary services, and regulatory compliance while leveraging data-driven analysis and technical tools to evaluate market trends and maximize trading performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Market Operations & Trading Execution
- Manage real-time market inputs and submissions across multiple trading platforms, including NMMS, NGCP AS Web System, CPEMS, CRSS, and PREM.
- Coordinate with internal teams (Plant Operations, TSD, FMD) and external entities (IEMOP, NGCP, and other trading counterparts) to optimize plant dispatch and operations.
- Monitor and analyze market conditions, price movements, and competitor activities to inform trading decisions.
- Implement real-time trading strategies to optimize portfolio performance and ensure profitability.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with WESM rules, ERC regulations, and market operations protocols.
- Prepare justifications and documentation for submission to WESM Enforcement Officers and Compliance Officers.
- Ensure conformance to Power Supply Agreements, Retail Electricity Supply Contracts, and Ancillary Services Procurement Agreements.
Market Evaluation & Strategy Development
- Conduct data-driven market analysis to identify opportunities for optimizing energy trading and ancillary services.
- Monitor and evaluate competitor bids, WESM energy prices, and reserve market trends.
- Develop and refine trading models, forecasts, and risk assessment methodologies.
Commercial Operations & Emerging Technologies
- Assess the technical and financial performance of conventional and renewable energy assets, including coal, diesel, solar, wind, and battery storage technologies.
- Support the integration of new energy technologies into the trading portfolio.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, or related fields.
- Professional Engineering licensure (or equivalent certification for non-PRC regulated professions).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in energy trading, trading analytics, or market operations.
- Strong knowledge of the Philippine electricity market, WESM Rules, ERC regulations, and retail competition frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with energy management systems and trading platforms.
- Proficiency in technical and commercial modeling tools (e.g., PLEXOS, I-Pool, PSSE, R, Python, MATLAB).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
