Position: UI/UX Designer

Location: Full Remote

Employment: Part-time/Contractor-based (3 months)

About the role

Our client is looking for a UI Designer to work as part of their existing Development team made up of developers, testers and business analysts (25 staff members) within an agile software development environment.

As the sole designer, in a team of software developers, software testers and business analysts, you will be working on creating and maintaining the user experience and screen design for our range of web, mobile and desktop-based systems. The work involves some ‘green fields’ projects and some modifications to existing experiences. Our existing team is broken into smaller groups who work on individual projects, of which you may be assigned to several at a time. Each team works closely on each phase of the development, from initial wireframes through to product completion.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a largely collaborative, close-knit team environment, and will have a strong interest in designing usable, visually engaging and high-quality experiences.

Your main key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Conducting User Research - Conduct user research and evaluate user feedback to appropriately tailor to user needs
  • Sketching, designing and discussing new ideas and concepts
  • Perform Usability Testing
  • Working with Design System, such as Storybook
  • Creating and presenting end-to-end user journeys and flows
  • Working closely with the development team throughout the software development lifecycle, from design specs handover all the way to shipping live
  • Maintaining consistency in the product appearance, following style guidelines, and taking influence from best practices and first principles of design and user experience standards
  • High level of collaboration within a close-knit team, sharing knowledge and learning from other team members
  • Contribute meaningfully to the development team, maintaining knowledge of new and emerging user interface technologies and practices

Skills and experience

  • As this role requires regular and frequent interaction with and support of the development team, the successful candidate will display exceptional verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Other key skills required to succeed in this role include:

  • 3 years+ experience in a similar role
  • UI design skills with a strong portfolio
  • Experience with app design, desktop design, web design
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Adobe CS, Sketch, InVision, Balsamiq, Figma, Ant Design or other design and wire framing tools
  • Ability to quickly understand complex user and business requirement, and design appropriate solutions to meet those requirements
  • Ability to present your designs accurately to various stakeholders across different platforms
  • Ability to work collaboratively and pair with various stakeholders (Business Analysts / Developers / Software Testers)
  • Experience working with remote teams
  • Exhibit a growth mindset; always learning, seeking and being receptive to constructive feedback
