Our client is seeking a Steel Checker, a quality assurance specialist who reviews and validates detailed drawings and specifications for the fabrication and construction of steel structures. This role will collaborate with architects, engineers, and detailers to ensure that all steel components are accurately designed, adhere to industry standards, and meet safety regulations. By meticulously reviewing dimensions, welds, bolt sizes, and connection details, the steel checker identifies and corrects errors before fabrication and construction. With an in-depth understanding of building codes, steel construction techniques, and fabrication processes, this role is critical to delivering projects that are both precise and buildable.

WORK SCHEDULE: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Mountain Standard Time (11:00 PM – 8:00 AM Philippine Standard Time), follows Philippine holidays

POSITION TYPE: Full Time

WORK ARRANGEMENT: Remote

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Verify fabrication drawings, ensuring that they are error-free and fully compliant with applicable codes and standards
  • Handle complete erection documentation by confirming that erection drawings include all necessary information for accurate and safe steel installation
  • Ensure that 3D models are fully detailed (up to LOD 400) and free from conflicts
  • Enforce detailing standards and processes consistently across projects
  • Maintain clear, proactive communication with managers, detailers, and team members to promptly address and resolve discrepancies
  • Read and interpret architectural and structural building plans and specifications
  • Review shop drawings for structural steel items, confirming that dimensions, welds, holes, and connection details meet AISC, AWS, and project standards
  • Cross-check shop drawings for miscellaneous steel items to ensure all required information is included
  • Conduct 3D model verification, utilizing basic 3D modeling tools to inspect detailed processes and identify potential clashes or errors
  • Conduct weld and fastener verification by confirming the correct application, type, and sizing of welds and fasteners across various applications
  • Evaluate construction techniques by assessing the depicted construction methods to ensure they are feasible and support proper steel installation
  • Handle dimension and tolerance confirmation by verifying that lengths and dimensions of steel elements comply with construction tolerances
  • Conduct fabrication process review by understanding and reviewing the fabrication process, ensuring drawings are practical and in line with manufacturing capabilities
  • Maintain organized records of checked drawings, noting any discrepancies and recommended revisions
  • Organize tasks effectively, prioritize quality control measures, and communicate issues promptly to the project team

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in the related field
  • At least a year of industry experience in
  • 2D scrubbing experience
  • At least a year of experience with Tekla
  • Ability to distinguish the following basic construction trade drawings:

Architectural

Structural

HVAC

Plumbing

Electrical

  • Able to understand and use drawing scale
  • Can build models using Tekla Structures and write RFIs
  • Ability to understand basic plan/section nomenclature
  • Can coordinate and gather information between various trade drawings
  • Able to interpret and assess relevant information in various sections and plans about structural and miscellaneous steel
  • Can locate and assess conflicts between trade drawings
  • Experience in a multi-client environment
  • Strong organization, oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical skills with particular attention to detail
