Position Responsibilities

The Software Quality Engineering Director will lead the Quality Engineering team, ensuring the highest standards of quality across all product development stages in an agile environment, with focus on test automation. This role involves strategic planning, process improvement, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional software products.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Strategy:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive quality engineering strategy aligned with company and product goals.
    • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of quality engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
    • Contributes to the success and timely delivery of the Maconomy product and ensure that this meets the set quality criteria and standards.
    • Collaborate with globally distributed Maconomy Engineering management to define quality objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Process Improvement:
    • Identify and implement best practices for quality assurance and testing processes.
    • Drive process improvements to enhance product quality, reduce defects, and improve efficiency.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Work closely with globally distributed product management, product development, DevOps, support, documentation, security and operations teams to ensure quality is integrated into every phase of the product lifecycle.
    • Participate in collecting customer data (FleetScan) to drive the test effort to actual customer use cases.
    • Communicate quality metrics, progress, and issues to stakeholders, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
    • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to resolve quality-related challenges.
    • Serves as focal point for other departments on product QE status.
    • Assists project manager with the development of release plans.
    • Promote the adoption and maturity of CI/CD practices.
    • Responsible for recruiting, retaining and mentoring QE engineers. Conducts performance appraisals and participates in merit reviews.



  • Technical Expertise:
    • Oversee the design, development, and execution of test plans, test cases, and test scripts.
    • Utilize automation tools and frameworks to enhance testing efficiency and coverage.
    • Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in quality engineering and software testing.


Qualifications

Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in software engineering, computer science, or business; advanced degree desirable.
    • Industry experience of 10+ years with 5+ years of direct / indirect management experience.
    • Experience with managing and leading a quality engineering team in a product development environment using Scrum to deliver high-quality, on-time commercial enterprise software.
    • Experience with development of ERP systems is desirable.
    • Extensive knowledge and experience with agile software practices.
    • Experience working with geographically and culturally diverse teams and stakeholders.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • High knowledge of software development methodologies including agile methods.
    • High knowledge of software development processes, testing frameworks, and automation tools.
    • Excellent product domain knowledge.
    • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency in modern DevOps processes, including continuous integration and continuous delivery.
    • Proven ability to create, manage, and deliver accurate project plans.
    • Ability to handle ambiguity, be self-motivated, manage time and priorities effectively, and allocate resources to achieve goals.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Manages a defined team of resources including HR & Business functions, such as; Hiring, Performance/Pay Reviews, Professional Development, Resource Management & Utilization
    • Demonstrates the ability to influence the strategic direction of the development practice.
