Mortgage Lender Underwriting Assistant
Position Overview: We are seeking a subject matter expert with deep knowledge of U.S. residential real estate and mortgages. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mortgage lending, underwriting, or related fields and a passion for housing affordability. This role focuses on data collection, organization, and analysis—not team management—making it perfect for someone who excels at independent, detail-driven work. (Note: There is potential for growth into a management role over time if desired.)
Key Responsibilities:
Data Collection & Analysis:
- Gather and organize information on purchase assistance programs at federal, state, and local levels.
- Research and document eligibility criteria, application processes, and program benefits.
- Stay updated on new and evolving programs, housing initiatives, and affordability trends.
Mortgage Expertise:
- Compile detailed information on mortgage products, including FHA, VA, USDA, and conventional loans.
- Document qualification criteria, underwriting processes, and required documentation for homebuyers.
- Research and explain complex mortgage topics in a way that is accessible to a broad audience.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Create clear, concise, and user-friendly reports summarizing research findings.
- Maintain a well-organized database of programs and resources for internal use and consumer-facing platforms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align research outputs with company goals.
Key Requirements:
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years in the U.S. residential real estate or mortgage industry.
Expertise:
- Comprehensive understanding of mortgage products (FHA, VA, USDA, and conventional), qualification processes, underwriting, and home purchase documentation.
Skills:
- Advanced research and analytical abilities with the ability to collect, validate, and organize complex data sets.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively present findings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with housing affordability programs and initiatives.
- Experience working with public agencies or non-profits focused on homeownership assistance.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple research projects simultaneously.
