Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Teaching of undergraduate & postgraduate students, research and supervision of honours students; organisational & management tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching and learning:
  • Teaching of undergraduate & postgraduate students.
  • Research and Innovation:
  • Conduction research and supervision of postgraduate students.
  • Organisational & management tasks:
  • Assist with management tasks.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Masters’ degree (NQF level 9) in Algebra, Functional Analysis, Topology or Differential Geometry.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience lecturing undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Recommendations / Added Advantages

  • Membership with the South African Mathematical Society (SAMS) or America Mathematical Society (AMS).
  • Proof of PhD registration or an intention to register for PhD.

Key Functional/ Technical Competencies

  • Latex, Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Outlook, Matlab.

Behavioural Competencies

  • Work independently, but also as a team.
  • Have good people skills.
  • Professional and ethical behaviour.
  • Be able to act as a mentor for junior staff.

Remuneration

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
