Position Purpose

As a Payroll Officer, you will support the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a diverse client base, ensuring that payroll operations are efficient, accurate, and compliant with tax legislation. You will not be responsible for calculating employee hours, rates of pay, or entitlements, as these are considered employment relations work and outside the scope of payroll processing services. However, you will be responsible for helping clients streamline payroll processing and navigate complex ATO/tax obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that payroll processing is completed on time, accurately, and with a focus on providing a hassle-free client experience.
  • Complete superannuation reconciliations and lodgements.
  • Accurately report, manage, and lodge payroll information through the Single Touch Payroll system.
  • Resolve escalated payroll issues and queries with the help of a Senior Payroll Officer, collaborating with clients, internal stakeholders, and external authorities when necessary.
  • Stay up to date with changes in tax legislation that may impact payroll processing.
  • Complete year-end payroll activities and reconciliations.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Payroll tax experience
  • Minimum of two years’ experience, preferably in a similar role, managing payroll for multiple clients
  • Experience with Superannuation Clearing Houses
  • Technical proficiency in Xero, with the ability to quickly learn new payroll timesheet systems
  • Ability to reconcile core payroll accounts with general ledger cross-check balances
  • Xero payroll software experience is essential; experience using MYOB will be considered favourably
  • In-depth knowledge of tax legislation as it relates to payroll processing
  • Ability to manage multiple client priorities, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
