Role/ Department

As part of the Custody Tax Operations team, the Technical Coordinator is at the centre of the International withholding tax processing, Reporting to the Team leader, responsibilities will be to ensure that team accurately identify, process and track tax reclaims, relief-at -source and tax breakdowns, on behalf of Northern Trusts global client base so as to ensure maximum tax benefits. The role will require responding quickly and professionally to inquiries in an accurate and timely manner and a focus to continually improve the service offered to clients.

The Key Responsibilities Of The Role Include

  • Responsible for execution of complex tax processes, where expertise is required to interpret policies, guidelines and/or processes as part of own work, or in support of other Partners.
  • Performs and reviews tax breakdowns & tax reclaims
  • Ensures that KPIs, such as accuracy and timeliness, are maintained. Service Level Agreements (SLA) are met
  • Plans and manages the team workflow to accomplish critical tasks on time, especially the processes are SLA driven and can entail
  • Ownership for one or more processes, reports and/or procedures. Review of processes, identifies and drives process improvements and efficiencies, where possible tasks that can be automated and simplified.
  • Manage daily operational activities and supervise day-to-day work of the team. Perform checker role in most cases.
  • Take on assigned supervisory tasks from the Team Manager and Team Leader.
  • Continuous focus on operational risk and control environment including ensuring procedures are followed and updated regularly, assisting and guiding other Partners as required.
  • To work closely with the relevant contacts within the scope of the process and for clients to provide the best possible service, responding to queries and escalating as appropriate

  • Analytically and procedurally competent, primarily on daily execution.
  • Emerging as an expert in a specific skill set but remains focused primarily on daily execution.
  • Is technically sound in own area of expertise and has good operational knowledge of other areas within the tax practice
  • Challenges assumptions in order to drive continual improvement. Thinks creatively and develops new ideas or ways of doing things without increasing costs or risk Takes initiative to accomplish tasks and make decisions according to risk, priorities and deadlines
  • Bright, articulate and entrepreneurial with a demonstrated ability to navigate through obstacles, work under pressure and successfully deliver to tight deadlines in a fast-moving business environment
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must be resilient to pressure and have the ability to adapt quickly.
  • Accuracy and attention to details at all times
  • Numerically competent with strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good core IT skills - Adobe, Excel, MS Office, Word etc
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Good understanding of Tax concepts.
  • Knowledge of end-to-end custody tax processes for multiple markets is preferred.
