We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Australian Payroll Accountant to manage and oversee payroll operations. The successful candidate will ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with tax regulations, and proper documentation of all payroll-related transactions. Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Administration & Processing:
  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing to ensure accurate and timely payments for employees.
  • Ensure correct deductions for tax, superannuation, leave entitlements, and other statutory requirements.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with relevant payroll regulations.
  • Payroll Calculation:
  • Accurately calculate and verify payroll for different pay cycles.
  • Ensure proper handling of leave balances, overtime, and other special payments.
  • Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve employee payroll inquiries.
  • Assist in audits by providing necessary payroll documentation and reports.
  • Payroll System Maintenance:
  • Maintain the payroll system, ensuring accuracy, data integrity, and smooth functionality.
  • Resolve payroll system issues and collaborate with IT for system improvements and troubleshooting.
  • Payroll System Migration:
  • Assist with payroll system migrations, ensuring data accuracy and seamless transition to new systems.
  • Provide training and support to payroll users on new systems.
  • Employee Support:
  • Respond to payroll inquiries and resolve any payroll-related discrepancies promptly.
  • Provide guidance to employees and management on payroll-related matters, including deductions and leave entitlements.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proven experience (3+ years) in payroll administration, processing, and calculation.
  • Strong understanding of payroll systems and software (e.g., Xero, Elmo, or similar platforms).
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant payroll tools.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees, management, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to resolving issues.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Knowledge of Australian BAS, superannuation, PAYG, and other tax compliance (preferred, but not required).
  • Experience in payroll system maintenance and migration.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of payroll transactions.
