Job Summary:

The Art Director is responsible for leading the visual direction and design aspects of publications within Summit Books. This role involves overseeing the creative team, collaborating with other departments, and ensuring that the visual elements align with the company's brand and objectives.

Responsibilities:

  1. Visual Strategy: Develop and communicate the visual strategy for publications.
  2. Creative Team Leadership: Lead and inspire a creative team, including graphic designers, illustrators, and other visual artists. Provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship to foster professional development.
  3. Design Direction: Set the artistic direction for each publication, considering layout, typography, and overall design elements. Ensure that the design aligns with the target audience and market trends.
  4. Collaboration: Work closely with editorial, marketing, and production teams to integrate visual elements seamlessly. Collaborate with writers, photographers, and illustrators to achieve a cohesive visual narrative. Design and layout books assigned
  5. Brand Consistency: Maintain and enforce brand consistency across all visual elements. Develop and update design guidelines to ensure a unified and recognizable brand identity.
  6. Project Management: Oversee multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. Collaborate with project managers to establish timelines and deliverables.
  7. Creative Innovation: Stay abreast of industry trends, design tools, and emerging technologies. Integrate innovative and cutting-edge design concepts into publications.
  8. Quality Control: Review and approve final designs, ensuring they meet high-quality standards. Provide constructive feedback to the creative team to enhance the quality of visual elements.
  9. Client Interaction: Work with authors, clients, and stakeholders to understand their visual preferences and requirements. Present and communicate design concepts effectively.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual arts, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an Art Director, preferably in a publishing environment.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing creative and innovative design solutions.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of industry trends and a keen eye for aesthetics.
