Main Purpose Of Job
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is the UK Government department charged with securing UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment and championing free trade. In the Philippines, DBT works with colleagues in the British Embassy Manila and other partners to deliver trade objectives as part of the Asia Pacific (APAC) network and against an ambitious Regional Trade Plan. In APAC, DBT has over 200 staff working across 13 countries stretching from New Zealand to Myanmar, led by His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner (HMTC) Martin Kent.
The post advertised is for a Trade Manager for Market Access and Trade Policy based at the British Embassy in Manila, working primarily to address cross cutting market access issues, coordinate the team's efforts and support engagement around bilateral and regional trade policy. The scope of the role may evolve over time to address changes in the business environment. The role works closely, and reports to, the Head of Multilateral Engagement and Trade Policy across market access and trade policy objectives.
The successful candidate will also manage the identification of market access barriers and deliver action plans to address issues. You will be expected to possess project management skills, attend official functions outside of office hours, and undertake occasional travel (international and domestic). You will be joining a high-performing team and will engage with a diverse range of UK businesses and sector stakeholders in the public and private sector – locally, regionally, and in the UK. You will deliver DBT initiatives in market and collaborate with regional colleagues as part of the DBT APAC team.

Market Access (70%)
- Identify and report market access barriers across DBT Manila’s market access portfolio, and provide regular updates, coordinating administrative requests and regional/HQ returns.
- Lead on design and delivery of campaigns to address cross-cutting or sector related barriers relevant to the DBT Manila team, leading on priority issues without a sector lead and supporting sector leads on barriers in their respective sectors.
- Develop and maintain a network of public and private sector stakeholders in relevant sectors to help identify new and progress market access barriers as well as keep track of trade policy developments.
- Coordinate UK engagement with the Philippines on trade policy matters, providing substantial assistance to the Head of Multilateral Engagement and Trade Policy, which includes facilitating direct government engagement, reporting and providing advice to DBT and other stakeholders.
- Maintain and update briefing of the Philippines trade policy developments and key market access issues.
- Support trade policy engagement of senior officials with the Philippine Government including arranging meetings/events, providing briefing, and accompanying the Director of Trade & Investment.
- Collaborate with wider embassy colleagues, including regional and HQ colleagues and with other UK Government agencies, to support economic and trade objectives.

- Will be accountable for managing assigned resources (funds) for specific events, projects, and official travel.
