Ciena is seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Management Systems team. Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Management Systems, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance, promoting safety, and driving continuous improvement across our global operations.

  • Perform data mining and analysis to identify trends and metrics related to global health and safety, as well as environmental management processes. This includes utilizing tools such as Excel, Power BI, and databases.
  • Collect and analyze EHS data from various sources, including incident reports, inspections and audits.
  • Utilize data analytics tools and techniques to identify patterns, potential risks, and improvement opportunities in EHS performance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop action plans and implement proactive measures to mitigate risks and optimize processes.
  • Close gaps in performance and drive improvements in EHS processes using data-driven insights.
  • Support the management of the Ergonomics Program.
  • Understand and effectively interpret Global WEEE, Packaging, and Battery Global directives and provide direction to functional areas to ensure compliance.
  • Understand and effectively interpret ISO 14001 Environmental Standard and ISO45001 OHS Standard elements to the business and ensure alignment.
  • Conduct internal audits and inspections to maintain regulatory compliance and ISO certification and develop and publish reports of these audits and inspections. Support and eventually lead external audits of these management systems.
  • Facilitate and oversee EHS committee meetings (both Philippines and Regional), including capturing meeting minutes and ensuring timely completion of actions.
  • Manage relationships with regulatory agencies, such as DOLE, including facilitating required documentation to maintain compliance to regulations.
  • Develop and maintain related EHS program documentation, procedures, and communications; Implement safety protocols and procedures to mitigate risks.
  • Conduct site-based risk assessments and environmental aspects and impacts within assigned regions. Identify hazards and aide in developing mitigation strategies.
  • Interact cross-functionally with personnel across a global landscape to promote and achieve EHS program objectives.
  • Respond effectively to safety inquiries from customers, vendors, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Fluent in English, ability to effectively communicate verbally through delivery of presentations and trainings to a wide audience, including management.
  • Effectively communicate in written form, such as in audit reports, awareness communications, presentations, and procedural documentation. Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

The Must Haves

  • A four-year degree in Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, Business Management, or Data Analytics is required.
  • Internal Auditor or Lead implementation certification for either ISO45001 OHS Management System or ISO14001 Environmental Management System.
  • NEBOSH IGC
  • Possess experience and aptitude in data manipulation and analysis using tools like Excel, Power BI, Share Pointe, and other databases.
  • Familiarity with managing or understanding global safety data and regulatory guidelines. Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, identifying hazards, and developing risk management strategies.
  • Ability to implement safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to manage a global Ergonomics process for an organization.
  • Strong data gathering and analytical ability with a process improvement aptitude.
  • Self-directed with a clear sense of urgency, accountability, high learning agility, and ability to work with complex processes.
  • Critical problem solver and planner, with a strong attention to detail and ability to implement data-driven solutions.
  • Highly results-oriented, with the ability to prioritize and succeed in multiple concurrent projects.
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment, with virtual program teams and business partners on environmental or health and safety programming. High functioning ability in both face-to-face and remote-based interactions.
  • Experience managing change within an organization and the proven ability to influence others.
  • Strong international experience and ability to adapt to different cultures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, emotionally intelligent, with a strong ability to build productive working relationships and influence and motivate at all levels.
  • Ability to travel internationally occasionally and flexibility to attend team meetings off hours.

  • Experience in a technology or telecommunications industry.
