Position Overview
The Safety Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs and protocols to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. The role involves conducting risk assessments, training employees, and ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop and Implement Safety Policies:
- Create and enforce safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Update safety policies as necessary and communicate changes to employees.
Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification:
- Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
- Develop and implement corrective measures to mitigate risks.
Training and Education:
- Conduct safety training and education programs for employees.
- Maintain records of training sessions and certifications.
Incident Investigation and Reporting:
- Investigate accidents and incidents to determine causes and preventive measures.
- Prepare and submit reports on findings and recommendations.
Emergency Preparedness:
- Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures.
- Conduct drills and simulations to ensure preparedness.
Compliance and Record Keeping:
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other relevant safety regulations.
- Maintain records of safety inspections, audits, and incidents.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with management and employees to promote a culture of safety.
- Serve as a liaison between the organization and external regulatory agencies.
Continuous Improvement:
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs.
- Propose and implement improvements to enhance safety performance.
Qualifications:
- A graduate of any four (4) year course.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety officer role or similar position.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and standards (OSHA, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel and conduct site inspections and physically access various areas of the workplace.
- May require lifting and carrying materials or equipment, as needed.
